Required initials fields in rental agreements

Problem statement

  • Hosts cannot currently require guests to initial specific sections or line items in rental agreements
  • While initials fields can be added, they remain optional, so guests can skip them and complete signing without acknowledging critical clauses

Current workaround

  • Hosts add initials fields but have no way to enforce that guests actually use them
  • Some hosts may need to manually follow up with guests who skip initialing important sections

Impact

  • Reduced legal protection β€” hosts cannot ensure guests have acknowledged specific terms, liability waivers, or house rules
  • Additional manual work to verify or chase down missing initials
  • Weakened enforceability of rental agreements if disputes arise

Proposed solution

Add a setting for each initials field that allows hosts to mark it as "required," preventing guests from completing the rental agreement signature until all required initials fields are filled

Unlock

  • Hosts would have stronger legal documentation showing guests explicitly acknowledged key terms
  • Streamlined signing process with built-in enforcement β€” no manual follow-up needed
  • Greater confidence that critical clauses (liability, damages, house rules) have been reviewed and accepted
