File and Remit Taxes for Direct Premium
Wherever possible, start filing and remitting taxes for Direct Premium hosts so they don't have to.
Hospitable is already calculating taxes with the applicable amount for each transaction, and including this to the payment of the guest and the payout of the host.
This (mostly operational) feature would allow Hospitable, both legally and technically, to file and remit taxes as a marketplace / payment facilitator on behalf of the tax subjects, to applicable jurisdiction.
Our first destination for filing and remitting taxes is Tennessee, home to several major short-term rental markets in the United States, with a legal framework that makes it easy to file and remit taxes as a marketplace.

PinnedHi all! We wanted to provide a quick update on tax remittance as it has been mentioned in our community.
As of today, Hospitable now remits some or all tax in 48/50 states with the work in progress to expand to Alaska, Nevada, Puerto Rico, and Washington DC! To see the updates specifically over the last few months, refer to our Hospitable Community post. Also, we encourage you to join us in the Community to keep up to date as we continue to evolve and expand tax remittance, as well as join the conversation on what taxes you are looking forward to remittance next! Here, you will find more frequent updates as noted.
Please note that this list in the Community is a summary of the taxes that have been newly added to remittance. For detailed information on each tax and the tax type, please refer to the How Taxes are Handled in Direct help article where you can select the specific state to determine how and if these taxes will apply to you. These taxes apply to the following:
Direct Premium
Upsells (purchased through Hospitable)
VRBO Official bookings (processed by Hospitable as the Merchant of Record)
Also, each tax may have a different effective date that we began retaining and remitting on your behalf. Be sure to review taxes to determine if they are pass-through on specific bookings, upsells, etc. or if they are remitted on your behalf. You can review this in a few ways:
Each individual reservation booking and financial description will note the taxes and types that were charged and if they are pass-through to you
Go to Metrics → Exports → Taxes in your Hospitable dashboard to see a breakdown of the taxes and types that were remitted on your behalf or pass-through to you
We understand that with the VRBO official integration, tax remittance is ever more important for our customers to effectively manage their business. We are working diligently in the background to expand to as many local jurisdictions as possible.
While we cannot provide an exact timeline on when a new tax will be added (primarily given the structure of jurisdictions and registration policies), we are focused to provide expansion updates in a timely and more frequent manner. When assessing our roadmap and timing, we consider Direct Premium/VRBO booking volumes and taxes that VRBO already remits to be able to pair with your current processes. Our goal is to achieve tax remittance in as many jurisdictions that we can!

State taxes are generally easy, because they are only so many states. However, the difficulty is in county, city & local taxes because there are so many more of them -- prolly thousands. It would be a real value to Hospitable subscribers to support all state/county/city/local taxes without me having to lift a finger. I'm actually waiting on this right now.

This is my greatest concern as well. As a co-host, I can’t justify remitting taxes on behalf of 30+ owners we co-host with. The day Hospitable collects and remits down to the local level is the day we will launch Direct again.

This should be optional. Users should still have the option to take care of this themselves, if they prefer.

It is a pain to have to remit county taxes every month. I want to train a VA to do this for me but am unsure about trusting them with my finances. I would rather that Hospitable does this automatically for us.

When is NC going to be live with this?

As of today, tax filing and remittance is live in the following eight states: AZ, HI, ME, MI, TN, TX, VT, and WA. Up next, we are reviewing the integration and inclusion of the following four states: AL, NJ, NY, and UT. The goal is to expand remittance to all 50 states, and we are reviewing each state on a case-by-case basis to file and remit. We will continue to provide updates as our efforts expand coverage to additional states. For additional information relating to taxes, refer to How Taxes are handled in Direct.

Hi - Can you please confirm that the 1% Rutland City, not Rutland Town is included in the tax collection and remittances for Vermont.

For VT, we are remitting all state & local sales taxes and state lodging taxes. Local lodging taxes are pass-through to the hosts.

Excellent. Airbnb cannot even do that!

I prefer that this is optional so that I can aggregate my Airbnb, manual, and direct bookings to file myself.

I second North Carolina. How are you prioritizing states to remit first? Lets get NC on the roadmap right away.
