More Flexible Multi-Level Calendar Linking

Hi,

I’ve been running into double bookings because Hospitable’s current calendar-linking structure doesn’t provide enough flexibility for properties that are offered in multiple booking configurations.

I have one physical property that can be booked several different ways. Individual units can be booked separately, multiple units can be combined into larger listings, and the entire property can also be booked together.

The issue is that when one configuration is booked, I need every other listing that overlaps with that space to automatically block the appropriate dates. Right now, the calendar hierarchy doesn’t allow enough levels or relationships to accomplish this reliably. This leaves me manually checking and blocking calendars after reservations come in, and if a date is missed, it can result in a double booking.

I think adding Grandparent and Great-Grandparent levels, or ideally allowing more flexible relationships between linked listings, would solve this.

For example:

Great-Grandparent: Entire property / all units combined
Grandparent: Multiple sections of the property combined
Parent: Townhouse + apartment combined
Child: Individual townhouse or apartment

The blocking would need to work intelligently in both directions.

For example, if an individual apartment is booked, Hospitable should automatically block any Parent, Grandparent, and Great-Grandparent listings that include that apartment, while leaving unrelated units available.

If a Parent listing such as a townhouse + apartment is booked, both individual Child listings should be blocked, along with any Grandparent or Great-Grandparent listing that includes those spaces.

If the Great-Grandparent listing for the entire property is booked, every listing underneath it should automatically be blocked for those dates.

Ideally, the hierarchy would look something like:

Great-Grandparent
Entire Property

Grandparent
Large Combined Configuration

Parent
Townhouse + Apartment

Children
Townhouse | Apartment

For property managers who maximize occupancy and revenue by offering the same property in multiple configurations, this type of calendar flexibility is extremely important. Without it, we either have to limit the ways guests can book the property or manually manage calendar blocks, which increases the risk of double bookings.

I would love to see Hospitable offer either:

  • Great-Grandparent → Grandparent → Parent → Child calendar hierarchy levels, or

  • Even better, a custom calendar dependency system where we can specify exactly which listings should block one another when any particular listing receives a reservation.

The custom dependency option would probably provide the most flexibility because every property can be configured differently.

I’m happy to provide my actual property/listing structure as an example for the product team, because I think it would demonstrate exactly where the current calendar functionality creates the double-booking risk.

Thank you,
Melissa
