Accurate Occupancy Calculation for Parent-Child Property Groups

Problem Statement:

  • When viewing dashboard occupancy for parent-child property groups (e.g., duplex units), the Occupancy (All Nights) widget averages each property's occupancy equally
  • This pulls the total down when the parent property has 0% occupancy, even though booking the parent effectively books both child units simultaneously
  • Example: Child A at 56%, Child B at 43%, Parent C at 0% averages to 33.33%, but the true occupancy is closer to 50%

Current Workaround:

  • Using Occupancy (Available Nights) instead of All Nights, which excludes unavailable/blocked nights
  • This provides a more accurate number but still doesn't fully reflect the parent-child booking relationship

Impact:

  • Dashboard occupancy metrics don't accurately represent the actual utilization of duplex/parent-child property setups
  • Makes it difficult to track true performance and revenue potential for these property configurations

Proposed Solution:

  • Adjust the occupancy calculation for parent-child property groups so that when the parent property books, it adds occupancy to each child property rather than averaging the parent's 0% into the total dashboard occupancy

Unlock:

  • Dashboard would show accurate occupancy for duplex/parent-child setups while still including the parent's bookings in revenue and reservation stats
  • Property managers could make better-informed decisions based on true occupancy data
